Gomes' first feature is a beautiful musical comedy. Francisco is a teacher who, while helping with his school's production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, contracts the measles and dreams his own version of the famous fairytale.
A Portuguese style Peter Pan (laying cinematically somewhere between Kiteshi's Kitano or Rivette’s Céline and Julie Go Boating meets the seven dwarfs—without Snow White). Consistent with its radical choices, the film develops a sound and visual fantasy that has seduced viewers from Portugal to Brazil.
We welcome this remarkable debut to Seattle for its long overdue West Coast premiere.
