Made some sixty years before A Bug’s Life and Antz, Hoppity is an early attempt to show life from a bug’s perspective. What resulted is a wonderful little musical fable about urban development, made by Max and Dave Fleischer (Popeye, Betty Boop). All is not well in Bugville: situated within a vacant lot in Manhattan it is the residence of Hoppity the grasshopper, his lovely girlfriend, Honey Bee and the untrustworthy C. Bagley Beetle, who has plans to take Honey away from Hoppity and join with her wings in Holy Matrimony. But there is an even bigger problem: a skyscraper is scheduled to be built atop Bugville and could spell the end of the neighborhood. The only person who can turn things around, save the town and get his beloved Honey Bee back under his wing is Hoppity.
