(Julie Taymor, 2000, USA, 35mm, 162 min)

Lane Czaplinski, artistic director of On The Boards defends his choice for film of the decade, Titus, directed by Julie Taymor, whose previous credits include the hit Broadway version of "The Lion King." Adapted from an early Shakespearean drama of revenge and repercussions, the film stars Anthony Hopkins as the titular Roman general and Jessica Lange as a tattooed Goth, and involves much severing of body parts including, in one blackly comic scene, Hopkins' appendage being carted off in a self-seal Baggie.
