Jeonju Digital Project
Mar 21 - Mar 22, 2012
Seattle Premiere!
Every year the Jeonju Digital Project, initiated in 2000 by the celebrated South Korean Jeonju International Festival, commissions three filmmakers to make a digital short. In 2011, three of international cinema’s finest filmmakers were commissioned to make new work: Claire Denis, Jean-Marie Straub and José-Luis Guerín.
Claire Denis’ Aller au Diable tells the story of a man from the Aluku tribe, one of the five tribes of Maroons who survived in the forest after escaping from the Dutch sugarcane plantations.
In Memories of Morning, Jose-Luis Guerine gets out of his everyday routine to explore the street and encounters stories.
In 2010, Jean-Marie Straub went to Alsace in France to complete the second film of the Barrès series. This time, the film, An Heir, is based on the novel “Au Service de l’Allemagne,” about Mont Saint-Odile, written in 1905. Straub wanders around the mountain following the route of a young country doctor.
