Film program:

Faking a Living

(Joël Chalude, France, 43 min)

Pinto and Edna, an elderly deaf couple, have just moved into a low-cost flat. On Monday morning, Pinto returns to work, but he will be disturbed by his new environment and an unfortunate succession of domestic incidents. Somehow, he ends up with a Charlie Chaplin-style outfit that transports him to a world of silent cinema and a day of communication slippage.

The Time Is Right for Us (Die Zeit läuft für uns)

(Stanko Paclica, Switzerland, 70 min)

In a short period of time, Markus Huser wrote a key chapter in the history of the Deaf. This documentary film aims to honor his achievements, so that they are preserved for future generations. His actions shall not fade into oblivion.

Markus was one of the most important initiators of self-advocacy for the Deaf in Switzerland during the 1980s, fighting for state funding for deaf organizations, and empowering the Deaf community to stand up for their rights. At the height of his achievements, he became very badly ill. Despite this blow, he fought to the end for the self-determination of the deaf and hard of hearing in Switzerland.
