To accommodate evolving public health recommendations regarding COVID-19, we are using a hybrid virtual-and-in-person festival model in 2022. There are three categories of festival pass: VIRTUAL, IN-PERSON, and HYBRID (virtual AND in-person), all available here. Vaccination and DOUBLE-masking are required for NWFF patrons!

This collection of films explores stories of immigration, migration, and separation. These kids show us the resilience it takes to grow up in an uncertain world.

FAQ: How do I watch online?
  • Purchase your ticket through Northwest Film Forum’s Eventive virtual cinema. A free Eventive login is required.
  • From the Eventive virtual catalog page, purchased tickets will appear under “My Content Library” under your user menu (upper-right). From the Eventive festival landing page, they will appear under “My Tickets” on the site’s menu bar (at top).

  • Purchase your ticket through Brown Paper Tickets; come to the show!
  • You can also purchase a ticket on the day of the screening at Northwest Film Forum’s box office (1515 12th Ave, Seattle).
  • If you have purchased a Hybrid or In-Person-Only Festival Pass, we’ll be able to look you up at Will Call by the name you purchased under.

For the sake of public safety, NWFF patrons ages 5+ will be required to present proof of COVID-19 vaccination and to double-mask while in the building. Disposable masks are available at the door for those who need them.

US Premiere!

Set in the occupied Palestinian territory of the West Bank, Checkpoint follows eleven-year-old Leila, who wakes up before dawn every morning to try to get through the military checkpoint between her and her school on time.

Papalotl-Muyus (Butterfly Seeds)

This dance film focuses on the story of the cycle of the “semilla” (seed), attesting that no matter where we go, our roots connect us to our ancestors and to each other. We overcome impunity by cultivating, sprouting and growing life wherever we go.

Odyssey

West Coast Premiere!

Odyssey tells the story of a migrant–of any migrant–who is forced to leave his home behind, becoming part of a deadly and violent Mediterranean odyssey that stains the sea red.

This youth-made film was programmed in partnership with the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the International Organization for Migration’s PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival.

Water, Wind, Dust, Bread

A documentary about two pre-teen children who struggle to live in a palm orchard near the Afghan-Iranian border, where foreign visitors often head for eco-tourism.

My Life in a Suitcase

A teenager is preparing to leave her country in search of a better life and must decide what to pack in her suitcase.

Terra Nullius

World Premiere!

CW: In Terra Nullius, a young girl talks about her experience facing racism and colorism.

Ermina is a Haitian girl who lives in Santiago’s La Victoria neighbourhood. For some this is an inhospitable place, but in her eyes and those of her friends it is the home of their adventures and dreams.

Morocco, 2004. Eleven-year-old Adli is upset by the visit of his father and his big brother, who leave for France in just a few days.
