What's in a name?
Blue was a common euphemism for erotica for a long time. Andy Warhol made Blue Movie in 1969. Blue has been aligned with morality laws in the 1700s, jailed sex workers, and smutty songs in the 1800s and the covers of 1980s adult video tapes. Depending on the source, a different history, or myth, is the cause of the connection.
We chose the “blue” as part of our new event title to play with a once-common euphemism and centuries of histories throwing a finger at the current regressive hold on the color. We use it to connect the current wave of queer, trans, and experimental porn to the vintage queer smut we’ll be screening all weekend.
