About

A quick and collaborative poetry activity through hybrid forms: Participants will split into groups and, using a single video clip as the opening poetic phrase, alternate between writing or filming in response to the image or line that came before.

This introductory, generative, and hands-on workshop is recommended for adults and youth ages 14+. With guidance from Cadence co-directors, participants will co-create components of an exquisite corpse video poem.  Each group’s collaborative outcome will later be edited into a video for inclusion in the 8th annual Cadence Video Poetry Festival in April 2025.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
This workshop takes place at Hugo House and is suitable for drop-in participation during ~25 min sessions.

After a brief group discussion, participants will split into teams of writers and filmers, each given a visual phrase as a starting point. Teams will alternate generating a new line through writing or a new phrase through visuals based on the line or image that came before.

DELIVERABLES:

  • We will have a share out at the end of each 25 min session to review what was generated.
  • Participants will submit their film clips and writing to a shared folder before the end of the workshop.
  • The final work will be shared with participants via email in advance of the 2025 festival.

ONSITE WORKSHOP SUPPLIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • iPads for filming – Participants may also use personal devices (tablets or phones) to film.

If you have any additional questions, please email cadencevideopoetry@gmail.com.
