About
In 2016, 28-year-old Sarah Smith challenged 22-year incumbent Rep. Adam Smith – no relation – in a two-year-long Congressional campaign for Washington’s District 9. A Japanese film crew from NHK, Japan’s public broadcaster, joined the campaign team just shortly before her primary win against the Republican nominee and followed her and her team throughout the campaign, all the way to her loss against Rep. Smith in the General. This behind the scenes documentary covers three Progressive, Democratic Congressional hopefuls in very different parts of the United States: Linsey Fagan of Texas, Rick Ojeda of West Virginia, and Sarah Smith of Seattle, Washington. After the documentary, Seattle Weekly’s 2017 Comedian of the Year, Brett Hamil, will be on hand to facilitate a lively, frank discussion touching on Seattle’s politicians and their politics, your questions, and a look into the future of the progressive movement. We’ll also talk about the national organizations that supported Sarah’s campaign, like Brand New Congress and the Justice Democrats, but most importantly? We’re collecting canned and other non-perishable food items for the Rainier Valley Foodbank!
Join us for an interesting night at the Northwest Film Forum, and bring a couple of cans of food!
