Inspired by frequent requests to “pick” her brain over coffee, Emmy-nominated filmmaker Xan Aranda hosts a dynamic workshop covering topics she’s explored during her past decade of public speaking at universities, film festivals, workshops, and as a consultant. Xan has worked on a wide range of projects in both fiction and documentary film and television, as well as branded content, commercials, and music videos.

Intended to focus and empower independent (fiction AND documentary) filmmakers, this event will cover:

  • Survival and Resilience Tips
  • Creativity Wrangle and Flow
  • Community Building
  • Strategic Planning
  • Project (and Life) Management
  • Grants, Crowdfunding, Distribution
  • And more

Filmmakers experiencing some of (but not limited to) the following are encouraged to attend:

  • New to town or the film business, working on finding your people
  • Experienced, want to strategize a pivot
  • On a roll, want tighten your game
  • Freaked out, burnt out, ready to give up

With an always practical approach to the challenging professional and creative landscape of filmmaking, Xan is intent on cultivating humanity and empowerment in her workshops. Get ready to connect, laugh, and pick her brain.

Emmy nominee Xan Aranda is an award-winning filmmaker who has worked with Jill Soloway, the Duplass Brothers, Focus Features, and others. Xan’s Emmy nomination was alongside Jill Soloway for Transparent’s THIS IS ME, a collection of short films for which she served as Producer and Co-Executive Producer. With Mark and Jay Duplass, Xan developed and serves as an Executive Producer of HBO’s ROOM 104. She also produced BLUE JAY with Mel Eslyn, starring Mark Duplass and Sarah Paulson, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
