Join CAIR Washington and Northwest Film Forum (NWFF) for an all-day, immersive filmmaking workshop for Muslim high school students! In this workshop, you will explore the art of capturing your narrative through the versatile medium of filmmaking. Working with local filmmaker and poet Hanan Hassan, you’ll learn how to mix media into film, record creatively using DSLR or phone cameras, and edit using Adobe Premiere. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a finished film that will be published on NWFF’s website AND screened at its annual Children’s Film Festival!

Join this FREE workshop to develop your story and discover how to combine genres and filmmaking techniques to tell stories. No prior experience needed — beginners welcome!

Hanan Hassan

Hanan Hassan

Hanan Hassan (she/her/hers) is a poet, organizer, and interdisciplinary creative residing in Seattle by way of Richardson, Texas. She is currently an Assistant Education Programmer at the Northwest Film Forum. Her work is rooted in her experiences and upbringing as Somali diaspora. Hanan’s film work has earned recognition in 3+ festivals and her poetry was recently featured in the Summer 2019 issue of Hargeisa Literary Magazine , a publication of the Republic of Somaliland. In her free time she enjoys creating art, cooking and brainstorming comedy skits. She is currently working on a poetry documentary through the PNW Afro X Research Fellowship and is compiling her first poetry book Desert Flower Bloom.
