About

All are welcome to attend this virtual screening and discussion for the collaborative film made by participants in the experimental filmmaking workshop, presented in partnership with The Henry and Interbay Cinema Society.

The online workshop (ArtVenture: Magic Patterns – Washi Tape Animation on Film with Jackie Argo and Devon Damonte) takes place February 7th and 14th, and is full.

Participants combine washi tape with 16mm film to learn about how patterns, rhythms, and textures function in art. Washi tape is a richly patterned adhesive made from Japanese rice paper. It is also a handy material for creating abstract, cameraless animated movies on 16mm film leader, which interacts with the tape’s patterns and textures in magical ways when the film is projected. Participants receive and return their film segments by mail, then all the pieces are spliced into a collaborative group film shared at this screening.

Join us to enjoy the film, and learn about this innovative technique for filmmaking!
