About the Jury

Each year, more than 25 youth ages 8-15 participate on youth-led juries to view films and award official prizes to CFFS’ short and feature films. Youth are the ultimate decision-makers on these panels, which provide an excellent opportunity for NWFF’s young film lovers to sharpen their critical eye and have meaningful opportunities to engage with other youth around issues of great importance to them.

For the 16th Annual Children’s Film Festival Seattle (February 18-28, 2021), Northwest Film Forum goes completely virtual to honor the theme of “Love & Light” amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s festival will feature four feature films and 16 short film programs representing 36 countries, with live-action and animated films. We are seeking a diverse youth jury pool from throughout the King County region, who are representative of the inclusive, multicultural priorities of CFFS, and its mission to inspire empathy, understanding, and a nuanced view of the world.

Stipends will be available for those who qualify for free and reduced lunch. The festival has three juries, grouped by age, and jury members must be available to attend both Jury meetings via Zoom:

• Catbus Kids (ages 8-10) – Saturday, Feb 20th and 27th – 11am-12pm
  
• Fantastic Foxes (ages 11-14) – Saturday, Feb 20th and 27th – 4-5pm
  
• Iron Giants (ages 15-18) – Friday, Feb 19th and 26th – 4-5pm
• Time commitment: 2 hours of jury meetings, plus about 2 hours of film viewing which can be done at home on your own schedule.
• Jury members watch a selection of short and feature films at home. They then choose with their group, which films will receive awards by category.
• Jury Members will receive a festival pass to be able to watch all the films online!
