OUR STORIES: Support, Reflection, Truth, and Healing for Filmmakers

This event took place on Jun 2, 2021
Duration: 1h 30m

About

* Co-presented with cinéSPEAK, FilmGate Miami, Full Spectrum Features, and The Luminal Theater! *

Artists from non-dominant identities are suddenly being invited to reflect a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable world through their storytelling. We have witnessed a rapid spike in resources and newly piqued interest in “diverse stories.” But how long will this interest last if the foundation of inequity–the intentional and unintentional imbalance in the distribution of wealth, power, policy influence, and access–remains unchanged? What changes must we make today so that we are no longer waiting to be invited, but are in control of when, where, how and why our stories are told?

Five women-, BIPOC-, and LGBTQ-led film organizations from across the country invite filmmakers to explore, reflect, and heal. The featured host for May is FilmGate Miami, a nonprofit organization in Miami, FL that empowers independent and interactive film and media makers to create in Florida. FilmGate Miami serve the creative community and bring members and audience together through festivals, educational programs, destination creative labs, mentorship and networking events.
