About
How do you satirize the fact that our country elected a reality television star to the highest office in the nation? What challenges does the surreality of our modern political dilemma present for comedians, writers, and consumers of media? Does sharing John Oliver clips on your timeline really do anything? (hot take: nope). Is SNL still relevant in the larger cultural conversation? Join us as we watch a screening of some of the best political satire sketches from television from the past 50 years. Afterwards we’ll hear from comedians and TV experts about the role of political satire and where we go from here.
Meet the panelists:
- Stephen Groening is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Comparative Literature, Cinema, and Media at UW.
- Elicia Sanchez is a local comedian, writer, and comic book reader.
- Bettina McKelvey is a Seattle-based comedian, lowbrow film savant, and hard-boiled librarian who owns more Dansko clogs than you can possibly imagine.
