About:

**Co-presented with the Seattle ReCreative and Scarecrow Video’s Children’s Hour**

Join the party in the NWFF lobby on opening day, 5:30pm, to get crafty with Seattle ReCreative’s global celebration craft time. Choose between making Japanese Koi Kites, Australian Dot Drawings, or Indian Paper Flowers – or all three! Everyone in the family can participate.

At 7pm, make your way to the theater to watch a collection of movie clips and documentary footage of celebrations from around the world curated by Scarecrow Video’s Children’s Hour! Take a trip to each continent to see what traditions, dances, art, and events other cultures use to celebrate. You may even spot some of the crafts you made in the lobby!

Finally, enjoy a special multi-cultural celebration episode of the local BIPOC-driven early learning show Look, Listen, and Learn! Join Auntie Lena and Possum to explore different ways of celebrating by reading the book “Let’s Celebrate,” making a festive nacho recipe and Japanese chochin paper lanterns, as well as learning a song from the Mexican tradition of La Rama.

5:30pm - Craft Time w/ Seattle ReCreative!

Seattle ReCreative is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting creativity, community and environmental stewardship through creative reuse & art education.

7:00pm - Scarecrow Video's Children's Hour

Scarecrow Video’s Children’s Hour is a virtual version of the program we’ve offered since 2015. Ideal for pre-K kids, Children’s Hour is a combination of storytime, clips from the Scarecrow library, arts activities and science experiments. A part of Scarecrow’s community outreach efforts, Children’s Hour has long been a family favorite for free, educational arts programming in the Seattle area.

7:00pm - Look, Listen and Learn - Let's Celebrate! Episode

La Rama, Carnaval, New Yam Festival, Lunar New Year! Do any of these celebrations sound familiar to you? In this episode of Look, Listen and Learn, Auntie Lena and Possum learn about the many different ways that people celebrate all over the world. Join Possum’s friends in these fun and creative activities:

Reading – Emme Lee and Miss Rosa read “Let’s Celebrate: Special Days Around the World” by Kate DePalma at the Woodland Park Zoo.

Cooking – AnnaLucia and Mr. Tomas make nachos, their favorite celebration dish.

Art – Miss Erin makes a chochin, or Japanese paper lantern, to hang for Obon Festival at The Wing Luke Museum.

Music – Nadia and Mr. Chris learn about a Christmas tradition in Veracruz, Mexico called “La Rama” and sing a traditional song together at the Tukwila Community Center.
