In his own words, Von LMO is the “pioneer and architect of No Wave, post punk rock music.” He claims that without him, alternative and new wave would not exist. He also is living in ten dimensions, simultaneously and separately, right now.
When filmmaker and fan Lori Felker set out to make a film about the mystery that is Von LMO, it was intended to be a document of him and his life, a fan learning more about her idol, but she ended up with more questions than answers. A self-proclaimed alien-hybrid, Von LMO recounts playing music in NYC in the late ’70s, describes his acid trips with intense detail, talks about his time living on the streets, while sincerely discussing his associations on other planets. Filmed over 6 years and with access to him and some of his closest friends and bandmates, Felker does her best to understand the musician she has been a fan of for years but as she gets closer, her involvement in his life becomes complicated, as their friendship explores the deeper narrative of storytelling, ego, memory, and truth.
“Future Language is as much a thorny love letter from one eccentric artist to another as it is a warts-and-all portrait of a gifted musician haunted by demons of his own making.” – Michael G. Smith, Time Out Chicago
