About

In January 2016, armed protesters began their 41-day occupation of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. Their aim was to call attention to what they saw as the federal government’s intrusion into their right to make a living and saw their anti-government philosophy as the highest form of patriotism. Federal agents, hoping to avoid a violent clash, let the situation simmer for weeks. In his debut film, director David Byars gained the trust of the militants and provides unprecedented access to the crisis. No Man’s Land offers a detailed account of the impasse that ultimately resulted in the arrest and acquittal of the occupation leaders, Ammon and Ryan Bundy, and left another man dead. The events of No Man’s Land have proven to be a foreshadowing of our current political climate.
