About

On March 16 & 17, from 2–7:30pm, the Forum will present an array of interactive experiences as part of the 2019 ByDesign Festival. Step into Goethe Pop Up Seattle‘s virtual reality sculptural sandbox “Virtual Bauhaus” and construct your own vector-based artwork, then transition into the tactile world for a cross-section of contemporary US design work by local artists and designers at a pop up shop featuring fruitsuper, KAME, Frye Art Museum Store, and Moon Bloom Floral. Onscreen, we’ll present a looping showcase of motion graphics from Smile Faucet video magazine, assembled by Stephen Jablonsky!

Concessions will be open to accommodate the thirsty and snacky. Evening festival programs begin at 5pm both days. For more info, head to the festival homepage!

About Virtual Bauhaus

Virtual Bauhaus was developed by Goethe-Institut Boston in cooperation with Cologne Game Lab (CGL) at the Technical University Cologne and independent Bauhaus experts. Brought to you by the Goethe Pop Up Seattle as part of Wunderbar Together: The Year of German-American Friendship 2018/19 – an initiative funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, implemented by the Goethe-Institut, and supported by the Federation of German Industries (BDI). More information at www.wunderbartogether.org.

Pop Up Shop Tablers:

fruitsuper

Our shop focuses on local, independent design that is US-made. We’ll be bringing a selection of books, magazines, stationery, gifts, jewelry and homewares. Featured studios will include Apartment on Belmont, Gabriel Stromberg, fruitsuper, Tiro Tiro, Rachel Ravitch, Most Modest, Graf Lantz, Na Kim, Worthwhile Paper, and more!

HIKAWA STUDIO presents KAME phone cases

KAME, meaning turtle in Japanese, is a line of sculptural iPhone cases designed and hand-fabricated in Los Angeles by artist-designer Bailey Hikawa. A metaphor for a shell of a brain, KAME designs are sculptural, functional, ergonomic and individually hand-fabricated.

Bailey Hikawa received a BFA in Painting at California College of the Arts in San Francisco, CA. Her work has ranged from commercial art direction, theatrical set design, immersive installation, surreal sculpture and experimental performance. KAME is Hikawa’s first line of sculptural product-objects.

Frye Art Museum Store

The Frye Art Museum Store features a curated collection of one-of-a-kind objects and innovative items from Pacific Northwest designers and artists. Find a selection of Seattle-made items, from jewelry by SHAR-RECE and Morning Ritual Studio, to homewares and furniture from Hannah Ruth Levi and Casual Surveying Co., to frameable artworks by Jennifer Ament. The Store also offers a selection of exhibition catalogues published by the Museum. All sale proceeds support the Frye Art Museum.

Moon Bloom Floral

A series of fortunate events led to the birth of Moon Bloom in 2012. As owner and lead designer of Moon Bloom, LZ’s passion for the natural wonders of the Earth and deep desire to bring people closer to nature drives the designs she creates. Her fresh, whimsical, and artfully designed arrangements are pure flower magic! At ByDesign, look out for her signature flower crowns, vibrant pre-made bouquets, and fresh flowers to build your own bouquet!

Moon Bloom is committed to eco-friendly practices such as finding inventive ways to design without floral foam, using locally grown blooms and foliage, and utilizing every possible piece of material a stem has to offer.
