Join Mike Plante, documentary filmmaker and festival programmer, for insights into his latest film, And With Him Came the West, his craft, and film programming at major film festivals such as Sundance. Then stay for the 7:00pm screening of the film!
Mike Plante makes documentaries about outsiders. He produced and co-edited the feature Giuseppe Makes A Movie (2014, 83 min), about trailer park underground filmmaker Giuseppe Andrews. It played Hot Docs, Los Angeles Film Festival and Rooftop Films, then was released by Cinelicious Pics to theaters, blu-ray and VHS. Plante has directed many short and long docs, including The Polaroid Job (2016, 8 min), which was acquired by The New York Times Op-Doc series and nominated for a 2019 Critic’s Choice Award. His most recent feature is an essay film about Wyatt Earp living in Hollywood in the silent film age. And With Him Came the West (2019) which premiered at MoMA Doc Fortnight and is currently in theaters, acquired by Grasshopper Films.
Plante has worked as a film programmer and projectionist for film festivals since 1993. Currently he is the Senior Programmer for Short Films at the Sundance Film Festival, where he has worked since 2001, leading the team that selects the shorts.
