In recent years, fresh Latin American perspectives in architecture have been attracting international attention. Latin American architects are dissecting their discipline to better understand its relational nature, its social context and impact; they have developed a unique understanding of the architect’s role. For the first time, an Ecuadorian architecture studio, Al Borde, was invited to participate in the main exhibition in the 15th Edition of the Biennale (which will be directed by Chilean architect Alejandro Aravena), arguably the most important architecture exhibition in the world.

With the support of Al Borde, directors Katerina Kliwadenko and Mario Novas discovered a series of projects and studios, each a part of a unique “architectural movement” that seeks to address real issues, to be part of society and to change the established role of the architect. This forward-thinking approach to architecture, were it to become a global export, has the potential to make a substantial positive impact on the sustainability of building projects. In view of this, Kliwadenko and Novas have been inspired to document the action, theory, and practice of how to Do More with Less.

DARQNESS SEATTLE Queer and Trans People of Color Arts Collective was founded in 2014 to reclaim nightlife space in an increasingly gentrified Seattle dedicated to Queer and Trans communities and artists of color. Current members of Darqness Seattle include NXMXGXLDXX, Howin 1000, Toya B, Brian Is Ze/Queermo, Dos Leches, J-Nasty, and founder Reverend Dollars. The collective has also showcased renowned talents from beyond Seattle such as Le1f, BbyMutha, and Jasmine Infiniti.
