Former NWFF Studio Director Dave Hanagan returns to Local Sightings with a collection of his shorts. The films in this program are artistic collaborations – a product of Dave’s ability and good fortune to involve talented, bohemian cohorts in the filmmaking process. Each film presents a vision of a world uniquely different from our own, one where buffoonery and eeriness are abundant in equal measure. With a passion initially sparked by an interest in 16mm cinematography, this work demonstrates an experimentation with lenses, editing and all manner of visual trickery. Many of his films playfully recreate cinematic genres, moving from the atmosphere of classic Universal horror films to ’60s psychedelic science fiction and beyond. During the course of the show two hallucinating space travelers will encounter a familiar glam rock star, a woman will see the night for the first time and a writer will lose his words while getting harassed by Dr. Seuss’s literary intelligentsia. Also included are Local Sightings film festival trailers from past years.
