A critical flop at the time of its release despite the towering fame of its director, Cherry Moon has become a cult classic, beloved for its gender- and class-bending humor, outlandishly glamorous costuming, and of course for its inestimably gifted and dearly beloved star.

The cinematographic eye of Michael Ballhaus, sometime Scorsese and Fassbinder collaborator, works wonders to shape Prince’s vision into the palatable form of a ’30s romantic comedy.
