Local Sightings 2016 – Makoshika
About
Recent oil and gas booms in North Dakota and Montana are making significant economic impact on local communities. Small, quaint agricultural towns such as Richey, MT and Williston, ND, experienced sudden population increases and economic wealth with the coming of this new industry. However, because these communities are dependent on the oil industry, when the oil dries up, so do the communities. Told from the perspective of longtime residents in Richey and Williston, Hart’s film explores the ways in which the boom-and-bust nature of oil has significantly altered this region of the United States.
