This event took place on Dec 6, 2018

Duration: 2h

About

Recommended for adults and youth ages 16+, and educators or teaching artists who serve youth.

How do we understand the work of popular media in shaping culture? Join us for an illuminating evening of media analysis and discussion of everything from Disney characters to protest images. UW Bothell grad students in Cultural Studies will present a series of media artifacts (memes and more!) and guide the audience through techniques for understanding and talking about these artifacts. After the presentations, attendees will be invited to participate in an extended discussion about representation in media, stereotype reinforcement through pop culture and culturally shared media. If you like to get nerdy about the evolution and impact of our shared audiovisual culture, join us for this informative and interactive exploration!
