Join Jay Duplass and Megan Griffiths for a conversation about how to create in a landscape that often seems openly hostile to the independent spirit. As a quadruple threat (actor, writer, director, producer), Jay has spent decades exemplifying how to build a sustainable career in an constantly shifting industry. He will share stories, dispense some of his hard-won wisdom, and offer up productive ideas on how we can all navigate this together.
Moderated by filmmaker Megan Griffiths, all proceeds from this conversation will go to support the Lynn Shelton “Of A Certain Age” Grant. This grant was formed by Northwest Film Forum alongside Duplass Brothers Productions in 2020 after Shelton’s untimely passing, and supports women, non-binary, or transgender filmmakers, age 39 or older, working to direct their first narrative feature. Jay Duplass

Jay Duplass began his career in the early 2000’s writing, directing and producing several award winning independent and studio films with his brother Mark, including THE PUFFY CHAIR and CYRUS. In 2014, Jay and Mark created the critically acclaimed television series, TOGETHERNESS, inking a television deal with HBO, where they’ve since produced shows like SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE, THE LADY AND THE DALE and ROOM 104. The brothers also produced the Emmy winning Netflix docu-series WILD WILD COUNTRY.
Jay began acting in 2012 when Joey Soloway cast him in their Amazon TV series, TRANSPARENT, which won a Golden Globe for best comedy series, multiple Emmys, and earned Jay a Critic’s Choice Award nomination. He has also starred in shows like FX’s DYING FOR SEX, HBO’s INDUSTRY, Netflix’s THE CHAIR, Disney’s PERCY JACKSON, and in feature films like OUTSIDE IN with Edie Falco, and BEATRIZ AT DINNER with Salma Hayek.
For the first time in 14 years, Jay has returned to his roots of writing and directing films with the premiere of THE BALTIMORONS at SXSW 2025, which won the audience award. His latest film, SEE YOU WHEN I SEE YOU, is currently in post-production.
