About

Created in partnership by Reel Grrls and Northwest Film Forum.

Sounds Good covers the basics of production audio will leave participants with a deeper understanding of sound on set.

We’ll start with the basics of what exactly a sound department should be doing on set, and what the priorities of a good sound mixer should be. There will be a hands-on demonstration of all the gear in a sound mixer’s kit, including timecode equipment and boom pole technique. This class will prepare the participant to jump in as an audio apprentice on the Reel Grrls Pro set.

By the end of the day, students should have a more comprehensive understanding of why good sound starts at the source and how to achieve it.

Minimum age to attend is 17, there is no maximum age. This is part of a series of production intensives being offered this fall for emerging filmmakers. Those age 17-26 who complete all the workshops will be eligible to join RGPro, a production company that produces broadcast-quality media for nonprofit organizations, local businesses, and institutions.

I’m a cage free/free range, audio capturer and my favorite wave form is a triangle wave with a dash of sine to round out the harsh spicy edges. I generally practice catch and release of wav files. I started when I was wee and come from a family of wav makers.  I’ve had the pleasure of working on a bunch of commercials, short films, feature films and documentaries that have taken me all over the world. My last couple features are Sadie, East of the Mountains, and The Stairs.
