About

“Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere.” – Carl Sagan

Picture, if you will, the magnificent celestial canopy of the Northwest’s media arts. We gauge our position in the creative cosmos in relation to one another, finding inspiration and direction in each other’s work. Each of you is a brilliant star, sparkling alongside fellow fabulous orbs in a great network of constellations.

At this year’s Celestial Gala, Northwest Film Forum invites you to light the way for artists in search of resources, support, and each other. Join us for dinner and drinks at Metropolist, then get starry-eyed with us at the afterparty! We encourage anybody inclined to dress to the theme to do so, whether that means sashaying as your best Sagan or swaddling yourself in sequins and illumination.

Hosted by Claire Buss!

Claire Buss is a Seattle-based writer and director. She is the creator and host of an interactive, nihilist game show called The Future is 0. Claire currently works as a creative producer and director at Cut.com.

Meet our auctioneer: Laura Michalek!

Fundraising Auctioneer Laura Michalek still relies on the endurance and discipline she possessed when at the age of 15, when she was the first female winner of the Chicago Marathon. While Ms. Michalek has hardly missed a day of running since then, it’s this intention to excel at what she loves that is most evident.

“To me Auctioneering is about giving all of yourself, before and during the event, in a way that most folks wouldn’t expect.” Her style, fundraising insight, and commitment to her clients, and their mission, not only sets her apart, but has created a career beyond Ms. Michalek’s wildest dreams. “I’ve always been deeply interested in how non-profits I care about are going to sustain themselves, so it is nothing less than a thrill to know I can personally and professionally be part of that.”

Reverend Dollars on the turntables!

Reverend Dollars is a Seattle-based DJ and producer. Her work focuses on bringing together marginalized black, trans, queer, and people of color communities through the mediums of music and dance.
