Focusing on four families, Haaken’s film explores the various economic, technological and social difficulties facing dairy farmers in a modern world. The high cost of feeding cows vs. the low price for milk, the pressure for smaller farms to get bigger and industrialize for fear of going out of business, how to treat sick cows and manage disease, and shifting gender roles on farms are but a few things these farmers from Skagit and Whatcom counties contend with on a daily basis.
