Concurrent with the accelerating transformation of Seattle culture in the midst of its go-go tech economy is the increasing homogenization of news. Too often, media conglomerates deliberately focus their attention on the upper class who grow rich off the labor of the greater citizenry. The Conversations by local activist Paul Jackson is a challenge to their blithe disregard. The film is a series of one-on-one conversations with activists and leaders from marginalized communities about some of the most relevant issues facing working class Seattleites at this very moment: healthcare, housing, representation in city government, and homelessness. What emerges is a mosaic of Seattle’s past, present, and possible future.
