About
The Phantom follows the 1983 case of Carlos DeLuna, a 21-year-old Texan man who was arrested for murder despite his ongoing pleas of innocence — all the way up until his 1989 execution. The film lays bare the unsettling truth behind a tale of murder, corruption and lies that unfolded in the dusty, desperate streets of a Texas oil town.
In this defining dark episode for the American justice system, the State of Texas knowingly sent an innocent man to his death and left a serial killer at large. DeLuna’s case, for the first time, conclusively proved that the US courts executed a blameless man.
