Remove the Gap Productions’ Production Intensive Workshops Attendance is Roaring Back!

June 23, 2025

Seattle, WA – On a gloomy Saturday morning Northwest Film Forum (NWFF) hosts the first day of its 2-day Intro to Camera Intensive Workshop.  While the neighborhood was just beginning to wake up, inside the Forum the workshop room was buzzing with over 35 emerging women, LGBTQIA+, and BIPOC filmmakers learning the art of cinematography and camera operation.

After years of declining attendance since the COVID-19 Pandemic, Northwest Film Forum revamped the Remove the Gap Productions (RG Pro) program to be a monthly workshop series.  Since pivoting the schedule, attendance has shot back up and now the workshops are seeing their best attendance in years.  In 2024, the average attendance of the RG Pro workshops was 12, and now in 2025, both of the workshops have sold out with over nearly 60 filmmakers registered over the first two weekends.  For the remainder of the year each workshop has an average registration total of 30 people, which is more than double from last year.

“One of our major priorities for 2025 was to increase the attendance with RG Pro, and to create a deeper sense of community amongst the participants” said Derek Edamura, Executive Director of Northwest Film Forum.

Remove the Gap Productions is one of the Forum’s premiere apprenticeship programs for emerging filmmakers in the Pacific Northwest.  The Production Intensive Workshop Series comprises 7 individual 2-day workshops focused on the fundamentals of filmmaking; Intro to Producing for Film and Media, Intro to Camera Operation, Intro to Sound Production, Intro to Lighting, Intro to Editing with Adobe Premiere, Intro to Motion Design with Adobe After Effects, and Intro to Livestreaming.  Female filmmakers who attend all 7 workshops can apply to be a part of the apprenticeship program, where Northwest Film Forum provides opportunities to work on local projects with local clients.

“We had a lot of energy and enthusiasm this weekend, and we covered an incredible amount of ground, and it was so amazing to work with such incredible emerging filmmakers,” said Angela Bernadoni, Remove the Gap Camera Instructor.
