About

Get starry-eyed and boogie-down with us at the Afterparty following Northwest Film Forum’s Celestial Gala! Full of dancing, drinks, and cosmic chatter galore, we encourage anybody inclined to dress to the theme to do so, whether that means replicating your best Carl Sagan or swaddling yourself in sequins and illumination.

“We are star stuff which has taken its destiny into its own hands.” – Carl Sagan

* Prefer to go to the full-fledged gala? Snag tickets here. If you are unable to attend either, but would like to make a contribution, please consider donating to NWFF. *

On gala hosting: Claire Buss

Claire Buss is a Seattle-based writer and director. She is the creator and host of an interactive, nihilist game show called The Future is 0. Claire currently works as a creative producer and director at Cut.com.

On auctioneering: Laura Michalek!

Fundraising Auctioneer Laura Michalek still relies on the endurance and discipline she possessed when at the age of 15, when she was the first female winner of the Chicago Marathon. While Ms. Michalek has hardly missed a day of running since then, it’s this intention to excel at what she loves that is most evident.

“To me Auctioneering is about giving all of yourself, before and during the event, in a way that most folks wouldn’t expect.” Her style, fundraising insight, and commitment to her clients, and their mission, not only sets her apart, but has created a career beyond Ms. Michalek’s wildest dreams. “I’ve always been deeply interested in how non-profits I care about are going to sustain themselves, so it is nothing less than a thrill to know I can personally and professionally be part of that.”

On videography: Blanket Fort Films!

Blanket Fort Films is a nonprofit film production company that empowers filmmakers from underrepresented communities (LGBTQ, POC, and Women) through cost-free access to motion picture education and gear. They provide a vocational bridge to filmmakers 18+ who have aged out of youth programs and who wish to pursue filmmaking as a career.
